By Daniel Bettridge Slide 1 of 10

Star Trek's communicators, tricorders and hyposprays exist today in some for or another, check out some other movie technologies that came true.

The truth may be stranger than fiction, but sometimes fiction can actually get it right. In fact Hollywood’s finest have an uncanny knack for opening a window to the world of tomorrow, particularly when it comes to the technology that will take us there. Take for example Star Trek, which warped itself onto screen this month with J.J Abrams’ much-anticipated sequel. Whilst we’re not quite living on space stations and following the Prime Directive just yet, Gene Rodenberry’s sci-fi smash hit did get a lot of things right – things like communicators, tricorders and hyposprays, all of which exist in some form or other today. They’re not the first on-screen creations to make the jump from reel to reality however. So in honour of Star Trek: Into Darkness join us as we look at some of the other movie technologies that came true.
