Oscars 2014: Best & worst moments

By Emma Jones Slide 2 of 22

Best opening monologue

Deflating egos without seriously offending anyone in the room (take note Seth “We Saw Your Boobs” MacFarlane), Ellen DeGeneres delivered a well-balanced opening speech that reminded us of her last time hosting seven years ago: “So much has changed because, last time I was here, Cate Blanchett was nominated, Meryl Streep was nominated, Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated, Martin Scorsese was nominated… so like I said, so much has changed.” Ellen then moved on to congratulating all the nominees, “It’s not a competition, it’s a celebration. Eh, who are we kidding? It’s The Hunger Games. There’s cameras everywhere, the actors are starving and Jennifer Lawrence won last year.”
