The movie legacy of Bruce Lee

By Norman Wilner Slide 1 of 7

As the world marks the 40th anniversary of the death of Bruce Lee, we examine his film work

Saturday 20 July will mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Bruce Lee. The tragic death of the martial-arts master 40 years ago has preserved him in a state of physical perfection. We haven’t had to watch him struggle with aging or injury or personal issues or anything else that would have diminished his legend; he is perfect forever, and we can visit him any time we want by spinning up one of his movies. With Lee’s catalogue back in circulation – newly remastered in high-definition, to make the most of our HDTVs – we thought we’d walk you through his film work. (Since both The Big Boss and Fist of Fury were briefly retitled The Chinese Connection for international distribution, we’ll be ignoring all alternate titles and sticking with the production titles, under which the films are currently available on disc.)If this isn’t enough, you can also look up his television work … though it’s still pretty difficult to find The Green Hornet and Lee’s episodes of Batman and Longstreet. Maybe that’ll show up for the 50th anniversary of his passing.
