Raazi movie reviews
Here's what the critics are saying about Raazi, starring Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Jaideep Ahlawat, Soni Razdan, Rajit Kapur, Arif Zakaria, Ashwath Bhatt:
It's 1971 and Hidayat Khan (Rajit Kapoor) wants his daughter Sehmat (Alia Bhatt) to take over his job by becoming an informant for the Indian intelligence bureau. For her very first mission she is required to become the devoted daughter-in-law of a top Pakistani army officer. Read the complete movie review here.
Raazi, based on Harinder Sikka's novel Calling Sehmat, is about the daughter of a spy strategically turned into the daughter-in-law of an opposing spy, and Gulzar keeps the storytelling cut and dry, draining the film of jingoism as she lets the young girl go about her work. Raazi is an adaptation of Lt Commander (retd) Harinder S Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat, on a Kashmiri girl of mixed Sikh-Muslim parentage who gets married into a high-ranking Pakistani military family, so as to spy for India. It was promoted as an ‘unknown true story’ of the 1971 war, and was given a willing platform by the Indian Navy. Read the complete movie review here.
Like she did in Talvar, Gulzar assembles and marshals an expert ensemble. It’s a pleasure watching a detail-oriented director like her collaborate with an actor like Bhatt, who has a knack of making the tiniest gestures count. Read the complete movie review here.
