Nevertheless, the makers are making all arrangement to ensure the film comes out with a bang. On Tuesday, Hema Rukmani, director Thenandal Studios Limited, the makers of Mersal, announced via her Twitter page that the film as of today has been confirmed to release in 3292 screens worldwide, making it the biggest release for a Tamil movie.

The film is releasing in record number of places in several places. In Kerala, it’s releasing in 350 screens, surpassing the previous record of 320 screens by Baahubali 2. In Malaysia, a Tamil dominant market, it’s slated to open in 800 screens. Directed by Atlee, Mersal is his second time collaboration with Vijay after last year’s blockbuster Theri. In the film, Vijay plays triple role and he is paired with Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Actor-filmmaker SJ Suryah, who impressed audiences and critics alike as a menacing villain in Spyder, plays the antagonist in this film.

Tipped to be made on a whopping budget of Rs 130 crore, Mersal is the most expensive film in Vijay’s career, superseding his action-adventure flick Puli, made on a budget of Rs 100 crore. It needs to be seen whether Mersal, given its very high budget, can strike big at the box-office or not. The film has been dubbed in Telugu as Adhirindi, and it will have a simultaneous release with its Tamil version. It has music by double Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman.
