You can consume kanji for surprising positive effects. It is prepared by black carrot that comes only during winters. Yes, you read it right. Generally, most of us do not have enough idea about it. Drinking half a cup in the morning can awaken your mind, body and spirit. It is a fermented probiotic black carrot drink.

Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar is sharing the amazing benefits of drinking kaanji. The 45-year-old mother, took to her Instagram handle and shared her love for this delicious drink. “Kale dil wale bohot mile honge aap ko but have you met the kaali gajjar yet? Or ever had its kaanji?,” Rujuta wrote.

She further expressed, “Long before gut bacteria and its role in our health was discovered by science or books got written about it or food industry made packaged yogurt with strains of it, our homes made this drink. Especially the communities in North India. They used the local, seasonal kali gajar and turned it into this fermented traditional drink, kaanji. From bloating, cough, weakness in joints, this miracle drink seemed to cure it all. It was empowered after all by the rays of the winter sun, strengthened by the spice of mirch, hing and then perfectly balanced by the addition of kalanamak.If you suffer from constipation, wake up in the nights with cramps in your calf or have a kid who’s down with frequent cold and flu, this is the drink for you. How to make kaanji at home?

  • First, boil water and put in pieces of black carrot and allow it to boil once more
  • Now, let this mixture cool down completely
  • Then add Kala namak, crushed rye seeds, lal mirchi powder and hint (asafoetida) of hing to balance out the sour taste
  • Last but not the least, keep it at the window and allow to rest for 4-5days
  • Stir it and enjoy
