She only just gave birth, but Kate Middleton still managed to put plenty of thought into her outfit as she left the hospital on Monday evening.

Stepping out with her new bundle of joy, Kate opted for a red and white shift dress for the momentous occasion.

The classic cut dress featured a white lace peter pan collar and long sleeves, while the hemline stopped just at the knee.

It is a custom red dress by Jenny Packham, the designer she wore the first two times she gave birth as well.

She completed her outfit with a pair of Gianvito Rossi shoes, which are still available to buy.

The dress is thought to be a tribute to Prince William’s late mother Princess Diana, who wore a similar outfit upon leaving the hospital after giving birth to Prince Harry.

While Kate opted for a red and white dress, Diana wore a red coat, with a white shirt layered underneath. The shirt was accessorised with a red pussy bow tie.

Kate also paid tribute to Diana when she gave birth to Prince George and stepped out in polka dots.

The colour choice is also symbolic as it pays homage to St George’s day, which is celebrated on April 23rd in the UK every year and happens to be the royal baby’s Birthday.

St George’s day is a major feast and national holiday in England. The St George’s flag is often spotted in the UK and features a red cross on a white background.
