A mother-of-two has become one of the world's oldest lingerie pin-ups with a sizzling photo shoot showing off her amazing figure.

Mercy Brewer, 56, is the face of the upmarket Lonely lingerie brand in a new campaign celebrating the beauty of getting older.

New Zealand-based Lonely told the Daily Record that Mercy’s lithe physique and natural beauty made her a perfect fit for the label.

I’m blessed with height. I’m a chain smoker but I’ve pretty much given up the drink.

“Perceptions of beauty have and always will change, therefore I think we can conclude it’s standard is not set in stone, and new beauty is always waiting to be discovered.

“I believe we are in a moment in time where older women’s beauty has been a startling revelation.”

Born in Paisley at the start of the swinging 60s, Mercy never knew her footballer father. Her mum Margaret was a factory worker, entranced by Hollywood and she loved to dress up. But when Mercy told her careers adviser she wanted to work in fashion she was told to “get real”.

She chose a job in hairdressing and spent years travelling the world on ocean liners before ending up in London.

The former stylist tried her hand at modelling after top stylists Irvine and Rita Rusk recommended she give it a go.

She was just 24 and living in a squat in the capital when she began modelling for labels including Karl Lagerfeld, Dior and Moschino. She even starred in a music video for Sting.

She said: “Mum initially worried herself sick. I think she thought I was going to end up on page three.

“It was such a disgrace to have an illegitimate child in those days. You were pretty much automatically put up for adoption.

"My mum really fought to keep me. She’s a hell of a girl. She had all the film albums. We would pore over them for hours. She loved the glamour. We would dress up and dance together.”

Mercy’s first catwalk show was in Milan with Campbell and Eva Herzigova but she moved to New Zealand in the early 2000s after meeting her husband Martin.

She now joins the ranks of older models, including fellow Scot Gillean McLeod who posed for H&M in her swimsuit, aged 60.

Lonely say they pride themselves on celebrating beauty in all its guises.

They once shot a series of images of women of different races with no retouching, and they featured unshaven armpits in some shots.

Lonely co-founder Helene Morris said: “At Lonely, we feel that it is important to challenge what we see in our media with a more authentic reflection of beauty and hope to grow people’s visual vocabulary.

“The beauty and fashion industries are so obsessed with youth but the reality is we are all aging, and there are so many wonderful things about growing older.

“So often the primary message around age is intervention, which is a frustrating response to such a natural, inevitable process.”

Mercy, who was photographed by Harry Were, said she discovered the label after seeing some of the underwear on fashion shoots.
