Multimillion listings continue to raise the bar in real estate globally. In one such landmark deal, a Florida mansion set the record for the most expensive listing at US $135 million earlier this year. The record was recently broken by a Beverly Hills residential compound at US $195 million. The rare, expansive 25-acre property offers views of the iconic Los Angeles canyons and city lights, and comes with its own vineyard.

1. ANTILIA, MUMBAI, INDIA

Owner: Mukesh Ambani, net worth US $23.9 billion

Value: Upward of US $1 billion

Named after a mythical island in the Atlantic, Antilia is a 400,000-square foot skyscraper residence with six underground levels of parking, three helicopter pads and a gym. The construction cost of Mukesh Ambani's home topped US $1 billion.

Owner: Lily Safra, net worth US $1.3 billion

Purchase Price: US $750 million (€500 million), in 2008

The mansion, reportedly built for one of King Leopold II’s mistresses, was valued at US $750 million in 2008 when Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov tried to purchase it. He eventually pulled out forfeiting his US $75 million deposit.

3. FAIR FIELD, NEW YORK, US

Owner: Ira Rennert, net worth US $6 billion

Property value: About US $248.5 million, according to 2014 tentative tax assessment

Ira Rennert's home comprises of 29 bedrooms, 39 baths, three swimming pools, and also houses its own power plant. The estate located in Sagaponack, is one of the poshest localities in New York.

4. ONE HYDE PARK, LONDON, ENGLAND

Sale Price: US $237 million (May 2014)

Earlier in May, a penthouse at One Hyde Park was reportedly sold for US $237 million (£140 million). The previous record of the world’s most expensive apartment was US $221 million in 2011.

5. KENSINGTON PALACE GARDENS, LONDON, ENGLAND

Owner: Lakshmi Mittal, net worth US $16.6 billion

Purchase Price: £117 million (US $222 million at the time) in 2008

A neo-Georgian mansion (not pictures), near the Israeli embassy, is one of the three houses that Mittal is believed to own on the high-security street known as Billionaires Row. The home was bought from hedge fund billionaire Noam Gottesman.

6. ELLISON ESTATE, CALIFORNIA, USA

Owner: Larry Ellison, net worth US $51.4 billion

Value: estimated US $200 million to construct

While its assessment in 2013 revealed that it was worth US $73.2 million, the property’s building cost was more about US $200 million. Ellison, who is the founder of Oracle, is one of the world’s most avid collector of real estate and built the 23-acre Japanese-style estate in 2004 with 10 buildings, a man-made lake, a bath house, a tea house and a koi pond.

7. XANADU 2.0, WASHINGTON, USA

Owner: Bill Gates, net worth US $77.5 billion

Market Value: US $120.5 million, 2014 tax assessment

Equipped with a 2,500-square foot gym, a library with a domed reading room and a pool with an underwater music system, the property located in Seattle is close to Lake Washington.

The house boasts a 13,519-square-foot main house with 12 bedrooms, seven full baths and two half baths and a wood-paneled library. Owned previously by timber tycoon John Rudey, Copper Beech Farm is also equipped with a solarium, a wine cellar, and a three-story-high, wood-paneled foyer.
