Mumbai: The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Anjali Damania, who unsuccesfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Nagpur seat, has resigned from the party as she was unhappy with talk of change of leadership in the state unit.

However, Marathi news channel ABP Majha cited AAP spokesman in Delhi as saying that Damania has resigned only from her post in party and not from the party itself.

Speaking with the same channel, the party’s state unit convener Mayank Gandhi said, “Party is trying to pursue Damania to reconsider her decision, and AAP will be coming out with press statement on the issue, stating the factual position.”

Meanwhile, in a text message sent to her party colleagues, Damania has said, “Dear colleagues, with a heavy heart I am ending my association with AAP. Thanks. My greatest regards for Arvind (Kejriwal) who is like an elder brother. All I want to request is that please do not have any conspiracy theories of my exit. I request the media to respect my privacy.”

Damania shot to fame in 2012, when she took on then Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari, after he allegedly refused, to entertain a corruption case against state’s deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. While refusing to take up a corruption case aginst Pawar, Gadkari allegedly told Damania that, ‘Woh hamare chaar kam karten hain aur hum unke’.

The text messages and phone calls to Damania’s cell phone remained unanswered.
