New Delhi: Union defence minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday lashed out at the Pakistan army for “active participation” and “actual indulgence” in the “barbaric” act of killings of Indian Army personnel, according to an Indian Express report. The comment came soon after India accused Pakistan of killing two army personnel and mutilating their bodies, saying that the blood trail “clearly shows that the killers returned across the Line of Control”.

The killing and beheading of an Indian Army soldier and a jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) took place in Poonch district’s Krishna Ghati sector on 1 May.

Speaking after a meeting of the Cabinet as well as the Cabinet Committee on Security, Jaitley dismissed Islamabad’s denial of any role in the incident.

He also called on the citizens to trust the capability of the Indian Army to respond to the outrage in Jammu and Kashmir, The Times of India reported.

The statement came hours after India summoned Pakistan high commissioner Abdul Basit to protest the killing and mutilation of two Indian security personnel earlier this week by the Pakistan military in Kashmir, describing it as an act of provocation.

“The fact is that cover firing was provided, those who carried out the act were helped to escape. On such a heavily guarded border, where posts are within few metres of each other, this cannot happen without the protection or the participation or the actual indulgence of the (Pakistan) Army itself,” Indian Express quoted Jaitley as saying.

When asked on the possible options in dealing with the incident, Jaitley said, “Aap apni fauj per bharosa rakhiye (Have faith in your Army).”
