Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a judicial inquiry into violence in the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus, said government spokesperson Srikant Sharma on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Varanasi divisional commissioner Nitin Gokarn on Tuesday blamed the BHU administration in the preliminary report submitted to chief secretary Rajiv Kumar, according to The Indian Express.

In his report, Gokarn said that the university administration did not deal with the complaint filed by the victim in a sensitive manner, the report added.

A number of students, including women, and two journalists were injured in a lathicharge by the police in the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) where a protest on Saturday night against an alleged eve-teasing incident turned violent.

The violence erupted after some students, protesting against the incident on Thursday, wanted to meet the varsity’s vice chancellor at his residence.
