Chaiwala's account gets credited with Rs 4.8 crore, income tax department probe on

After a chaiwala's account was credited with Rs 4.8 crore, a team from the income tax department knocked at his door. Rajkumar, a tea vendor one can find outside Jaipur's Udyog Bhawan, got the shock of his life when he was notified about this incident.

The inquiry went on for five hours wherein he was accused of converting black money into white and was forced to reveal the source.

The tea seller told them that he is an ordinary man and have no idea from where the money was credited. It was later found out that there was a problem with the bank entry.

After five hours of inquiry, he was taken to the bank and when the bank manager checked the record it was found that only Rs 3 crore 32 lakh was deposited in the bank.

The tea vendor said he had deposited 48 notes of Rs 1,000 and it was later found that a bank employee had entered a wrong amount. Due to the wrong entry, Rajkumar had to face an inquiry that lasted over two days.

OP Tripathi, bank manager of Bank of Baroda, said that it was a manual error and might have happened due to the increased work load. The error was rectified and Rs 4 crore 80 lakh was converted into Rs 48,000.
