New Delhi: A multi-agency action plan is ready to make Delhi prettier and greener within six months. The heads of all stakeholder agencies have together prepared the plan to beautify the capital.

“We have finalised a detailed action plan to beautify the city and all agencies concerned have been given responsibilities to do it in a coordinated way,” urban development secretary Sudhir Krishna told a press meet on Monday.

The agencies include the municipal corporations of east, north and south Delhi, New Delhi municipal council, central public works department, public works department, Delhi development authority and the Delhi state government.

The plan includes maintenance of parks and green areas, upkeep of statues, proper disposal of construction and demolition waste, cleanliness of market areas, improvement of pedestrian pathways, maintenance of heritage structures, rejuvenation and beautification of water bodies and recycling and reuse of waste water.

The official said that the target was to start everything before the monsoon. The three urban municipalities of Delhi were also working on issues ranging from desilting of drains to checking for mosquito breeding before the arrival of the rains.

Decentralization of solid waste and segregation of collected waste at the doorstep would be put into practice. “It would be a better idea to decentralize solid waste management instead of creating mega dumping grounds,” Krishna added.

The ministry will build more than 380 public toilets in the city in the near future. Krishna said the agencies will try to finish all work in the next six months. The progress of work will be reviewed every month.
