New Delhi: The Competition Appellate Tribunal (Compat) on Monday upheld an order by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) that had imposed a `630 crore penalty on real estate company DLF Ltd on charges of abusing its dominant position.

The case relates to its Belaire project in Gurgaon. Subsequently, DLF faced a similar ruling over its Park Place project in Gurgaon.

In August 2011, CCI had imposed the `630 crore fine on the company.

M.L. Lahoty, who was the counsel for the petitioners (owners of Belaire) and was arguing against DLF, said over the phone that the order of CCI “has been confirmed by Compat.”

“The company will have to pay 9% interest on the amount due,” Lahoty said.

A copy of the order was not immediately available.

DLF does have the option of approaching the Supreme Court against Compat’s latest order.

“We are examining the order right now and cannot say anything more at the moment,” a DLF spokesperson said over the phone.
