Mosul: Islamic State (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi has been killed, according to Syrian Observatory for Human Rights which says it has “confirmed information.”

The leader of the terrorist organisation, which had built up a stronghold in Iraq and Syria, is believed to have been killed in an airstrike in the Iraqi province of Niveneh.

Al-Baghdadi had announced Islamic State’s so-called caliphate in Mosul, which has recently been declared liberated of the terrorist group by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

Islamic State has been struggling to hold on to its territories as government forces in Syria and Iraq have gradually liberated regions off their rule.

The terrorist organisation is likely to appoint a successor to Al-Baghdadi.
