Live: Sensex, Nifty open higher; Idea Cellular shares fall over 4%

BSE Sensex and Nifty open higher on Tuesday. The Indian rupee, tracking Asian currencies, falls against the US dollar. The shares of Idea Cellular Ltd, Merck Ltd and Sanofi India Ltd fall in the opening trade.

9.35am: BSE Sensex trades higher by 29 points, or 0.10%, to 28,842, while the Nifty 50 rises 10 points, or 0.11%, to 8,907.

9.30am: Idea Cellular Ltd fell 4.5% to Rs 109.60 after huge block deal. Around 120 million shares or 3.3% stake of the company changed hands in a block deal. However, details of the buyers and sellers were not known, according to a Bloomberg report.

9.25am: Merck Ltd fell 5.1% to Rs 1037 after the company reported 34% decline in its net profit in December quarter to Rs 18.20 crore against Rs 27.54 crore a quarter ago.

9.20am: Sanofi India Ltd fell 2% to Rs 4080 after the company reported 7.6% decline in its net profit to Rs 297 crore in December quarter against Rs 321.50 crore a year ago.

9.15am: The local currency opened at 66.75 a dollar. At 9.15am, the home currency was trading at 66.78, down 0.10% from its Monday’s close of 66.71.

9.10am: The 10-year bond yield rose to 6.894% compared to its Monday’s close of 6.879%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.

9.05am: Most Asian currencies were trading lower. Thai baht was down 0.19%, Malaysian ringgit 0.15%, Taiwan dollar 0.06%. However, Japanese yen was up 0.12%, South Korean won 0.08%, China Offshore 0.05%.
