Markets live: Sensex, Nifty hit records highs yet again

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex opens on a record high on Tuesday. The broader Nifty50, too, hits a new record. The Indian rupee, tracking Asian currencies, opens little changed against the US dollar but stays near the nine-month high. The shares of Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever and TCS rise in the opening hours, while the stock of Asian Paints and Coal India edge down.

9.28am: BSE Sensex trades higher by 161 points, or 0.53%, to 30,483, while the Nifty 50 rises 29 points, or 0.30%, to 9,474.

9.25am: Adani Group stocks trade higher. Adani Power rose 5%, Adani Transmission Ltd rose 4%, Adani Enterprises Ltd rose 0.5%.

9.23am: Tata Steel Ltd rose 1.2% to Rs461.35 ahead of its March quarter earnings. According to 12 Bloomberg analyst estimates, the company may post net profit of Rs986.80 crore while revenues will be at Rs31,620 crore.

9.22am: JK Tyre & Industries Ltd fell 3.2% to Rs163.55 after the company reported 32.8% decline in its net profit to Rs71.01 crore in March quarter against Rs105.63 crore a year ago.

9.20am: Brigade Enterprises Ltd rose 2.2% to Rs249.20 after the company leased 3.75L square feet office space to TCS.

9.15am: The rupee opened at 64.06 a dollar. At 9.15am, the rupee was trading at 64.05 a dollar, up 0.01% from its Monday’s close of 64.06.

9.10am: The 10-year bond yield trades at 6.81% compared to its previous close of 6.812%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.

9.03am: Asian currencies were trading higher. South Korean won was up 0.44%, Malaysian ringgit 0.36%, Japanese yen 0.28%, Thai baht 0.14%, China offshore 0.05% and Hong Kong dollar rose 0.04%. However, Philippines peso was down 0.06%.

9.00am: US markets closed at record highs. S&P 500 and Nasdaq composite closed at fresh records as rise in oil prices lifted investor sentiment. Tracking the global cues, Asian markets opened higher.
