Markets live: Sensex, Nifty open higher, Yes Bank shares fall 3%

The BSE Sensex rises in opening trade. The broader Nifty, too, edges up on Thursday morning. The Indian rupee, tracking Asian currencies, falls in the morning trade. The shares of Yes Bank fall 3% a day after it reported its Q4 results. The shares of Reliance Industries Ltd and those of Sun TV Network rise.

9.30am: BSE Sensex trades higher by 29 points, or 0.10%, to 29,365, while the Nifty 50 rises 16 points, or 0.17%, to 9,119.

9.28am: Yes Bank Ltd shares fall 3% to Rs1,556.55 after the bank reported sharp rise in its provisioning and bad loans. Yes Bank reported a doubling of gross non-performing assets (NPAs) to Rs2,018 crore in the March quarter, as it had to set aside an additional Rs228 crore to cover potential loan losses. Yes Bank’s gross NPAs were at 1.52% at the end of the March quarter and net NPAs were at 0.81%.

9.25am: Sun TV Network Ltd shares rise 5% to Rs883 after the company likely to see subscription boost and increase in revenues after Tamil Nadu state government–backed Arasu Cable TV received a digital license.

9.22am: Reliance Industries Ltd shares rise 1% to Rs1,380.05 after the company said it has commissioned Ethane project. The project includes commissioning of ethane receipt & handling facilities and ethane cracking at Dahej manufacturing facility in western Indian state of Gujarat

9.20am: National Stock Exchange said on Wednesday it will add 16 stocks to the futures and options segment with effect from 28 April. Bajaj Finserv rose 2%, Nestle India rose 1%, Berger Paints 1.5%, MRPL3.9%, NBCC 2.9%, Cholamandalam Investment 2.2%, Balkrishna Industries 3%, Fortis Healthcare 1.2%, Mahanagar Gas 3.3%, V-Guard Industries 4%, Can Fin Homes 2.2%, MCX 3.3%, Godfrey Phillips India 3.3%, GSFC 3.4%, Raymond 1.2% and Balrampur Chini Mills 3%.

9.12am: The rupee opened at 64.66 a dollar. At 9.12am, the rupee was trading at 64.70 a dollar, down 0.18% from its Wednesday’s close of 64.58. Year to date, it gained 5.2%.

9.10am: The 10-year bond yield was trading at 6.854% compared to its previous close of 6.856%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.

9.00am: Asian currencies were trading lower. Indonesian rupiah was down 0.15%, Philippines peso 0.11%, South Korean won 0.1%, Japanese yen 0.09% and Taiwan dollar 0.04%. However, Thai baht was up 0.1% and Malaysian ringgit 0.04%.
