Markets live: Sensex, Nifty open lower, Biocon shares fall over 1%

The BSE Sensex falls in the opening trade. The NSE’s Nifty50, too, declines on the week’s last session. The Indian rupee, tracking Asian currencies, trades marginally higher against the US dollar. The shares of Ujjivan Financial Services, Indiabulls Real Estate, TVS Motor Co. and Biocon fall.

9.45am: Ujjivan Financial Services Ltd shares fall 5% to Rs384.25 after the bank reported 56% decline in its net profit to Rs19.35 crore in the March quarter against Rs43.94 crore a quarter ago.

9.42am: BSE Sensex trades lower by 109 points, or 0.36%, to 29,921, while the Nifty 50 falls 30 points, or 0.32%, to 9,312.

9.40am: Biocon Ltd shares fall 1% to Rs1,097.10 after the company said its net profit fell 58% for the March quarter to Rs148.40 crore against Rs354.40 crore a year ago.

9.35am: Mahindra CIE Automotive Ltd shares rise 4% to Rs233.80 after the company posted 10% increase in its net profit to Rs16.63 crore in March quarter against Rs15.21 crore a year ago.

9.30am: Syngene International Ltd shares fall 4% to Rs515.85 after the company posted 0.8% drop in its March quarter net profit to Rs78.40 crore against Rs79 crore a year ago.

9.25am: Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd fell 5% to Rs148.90 after the company reported 3.7% decline in its net profit in March quarter to Rs60.18 crore against Rs62.51 crore a year ago.

9.20am: TVS Motor Co. Ltd fell 2.3% to Rs491.75 after the company reported 6.8% decline in its net profit to Rs126.77 crore in March quarter against Rs136.03 crore a year ago.

9.15am: The rupee opened at 64.13 a dollar. At 9.15am, the rupee was trading at 64.15 a dollar, up 0.02% from its Thursday’s close of 64.15.

9.10am: The 10-year bond yield was trading at 6.939% compared to its previous close of 6.943%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.

9.00am: Asian currencies were trading mixed. Philippines peso was up 0.13%, Japanese yen 0.11%, China offshore 0.11%, China renminbi 0.07% and Singapore dollar 0.06%. However, South Korean won was down 0.3%, Indonesian rupiah 0.11%, Thai baht 0.11% and Taiwan dollar fell 0.04%.
