Markets live: Sensex, Nifty trade lower, Axis Bank shares fall over 1%

The BSE Sensex trades marginally lower in the opening hours of Thursday, a day after closing above the 30,000 mark for the first time. The broader NSE’s Nifty50, too, trades slightly lower than Wednesday’s closing figure of 9.352. The Indian rupee continues its upward trajectory against the US dollar. The shares of Adani Enterprises and Kotak Mahindra Bank rise in the opening hours, while those of Axis Bank and Marico Ltd fall on the BSE.

9.35am: BSE Sensex trades lower by 13 points, or 0.04%, to 30,121, while the Nifty 50 falls 4 points, or 0.04%, to 9348

9.32am: Axis Bank shares fall 1.5% to Rs512.95 after the bank saw slippages worth Rs4,811 crore. Total slippages from corporate lending stood at Rs4,320 crore, of which 83% came from a watch list of loans that the bank expects could turn bad. The watch list outstanding at the end of the March quarter was Rs9,436 crore.

9.30am: Kotak Mahindra Bank shares rise 1% to Rs909.05 ahead of its March quarter earnings. According to 13 Bloomberg analysts’ estimates, the bank may post net profit of Rs972.70 crore.

9.28am: Lakshmi Vilas Bank Ltd shares fall 5.2% to Rs186. The bank posted net profit of Rs52.16 crore in the March quarter, up 6.3% from Rs49.07 crore a year ago.

9.25am: Adani group stocks trade higher. Adani Enterprises Ltd shares rise 11%, Adani Transmissions Ltd shares rise 4.5%, Adani Ports rise 1.1%, Adani Power Ltd rise 1%.

9.20am: The 10-year bond yield was trading at 6.941% compared to its previous close of 6.942%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.

9.15am: The rupee opened at 64.06 a dollar and touched a high of 63.98. At 9.15am, the rupee was trading at 64.03 a dollar, up 0.14% from its Tuesday’s close of 64.12.

9.10am: Asian currencies trade lower. South Korean won was down 0.35%, Philippines peso 0.24%, Taiwan dollar 0.19%, Japanese yen 0.11%, China offshore 0.08%, China renminbi 0.08% and Indonesian rupiah fell 0.08%. However, Malaysian ringgit was up 0.11% and Singapore dollar rose 0.07%.

9.00am: Markets in Asia were lower in early Thursday trade, following lower close on the Wall Street.
