What is it? The revised GDP growth projection for India in 2017-18 by credit rating agency Fitch Ratings, down from 7.4%.

Why is it important? Fitch is the second major international institution to scale back India’s growth projections after the government reported a sub-par 5.7% growth for the first quarter. On 26 September, the Asian Development Bank trimmed its 2017-18 GDP projection for India from 7.4% to 7%, citing “short-term disruptions” such as demonetisation and implementation of the new goods and services tax (GST).

The decline, on the one hand, is a sign of the headwinds facing the e-commerce space that was running on discounts and advertising. On the other, fewer startups receiving more funding shows an emphasis on quality and an environment that is becoming more discerning.

Tell me more: In the first half of 2017, consumer tech, fintech, enterprise tech, healthtech and edtech were the top five funded sectors.

What is it? The number of air passengers of Monarch Airlines that the UK Civil Aviation Authority will organise to bring back to the UK after Monday’s announcement of the closure of the airline.

Why is it important? Monarch Airlines is the third European airline to go bust in recent months, after Air Berlin and Alitalia filed for insolvency. According to Greybull Capital, Monarch’s owner, its downfall was precipitated by the impact of terror attacks on its big markets like Egypt and Tunisia, and the collapse of the pound after the Brexit vote.

Tell me more: Launched in 1968, Monarch was Britain’s fifth largest airline, with a 1.7% share of the UK airlines market in 2017. About 1,858 people have been made redundant, administrator KPMG said.
