NHAI to set up conciliation panel to resolve disputes

New Delhi: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will set up a conciliation committee in a month to resolve disputes worth thousands of crores involving national highways.

NHAI chairman Y.S. Malik at a PHD event said that they plan to form a conciliation committee involving independent experts as huge dispute claims are stuck in arbitration. The committee will be formed after the clearance from NHAI board.

Malik said that at present 180 arbitral claims worth Rs38,000 crore were going on where NHAI was involved and the conciliation committee will work both before, during and after arbitration. At any stage, if the parties wish they can go to this committee and get their issues settled.

NHAI at present is the biggest contractor in the country that outsources work of highway construction with an annual spending of around Rs80,000 to Rs90,000 crore.
