Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Monday opened flat at 59.39 per dollar tracking weakness in Asian currency markets.

Since the beginning of this year, the rupee has gained 4.07% against the dollar, while foreign institutional investors have pumped in $8.1 billion in the local equity markets.

On Tuesday, dollar buying by a few state-run banks had put pressure on the rupee.

At 09.34am, the rupee was trading at 59.37 per dollar, up 0.03% from its previous close of 59.39.

The South Korean won and Japanese yen were the biggest losers against the dollar, down 0.25% and 0.22%, respectively.
