Rupee opens lower at 58.65 per dollar

Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Tuesday opened lower against the dollar for the first time in five days tracking weakness in the Asian currency markets.

At 9.08am, the rupee was trading at 58.65 per dollar, down 0.09% from its previous close of 58.59.

Since the beginning of this year, the rupee has gained 5.48% against the dollar, while foreign institutional investors have pumped in $7.4 billion in the local equity markets.

Yield on India’s 10-year benchmark bond was trading down at 8.86%, compared with its Monday’s close of 8.87%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.
