New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) politician J. Jayalalithaa’s appeal against a Karnataka high court dismissal of her petition to stay the proceedings of a trial going on in a special court in Bangalore.

The Karnataka high court had rejected Jayalalithaa’s plea as the special court proceedings were in its final stages.

Going in appeal against the dismissal, the case was mentioned before the apex court on an urgent basis.

“On hearing the case and the urgency in the matter, the court has listed it for Monday (26 May).” said senior lawyer Maninder Singh appearing for Jayalalithaa.

The case goes back to 1991-95, when Jayalalithaa was Tamil Nadu chief minister and charged with wealth amounting to `66 crore, which was disproportionate to her known sources of income.
