Sensex trades flat; banking stocks fall

Mumbai: The 30-share bellwether BSE Sensex on Wednesday was trading marginally lower led by a decline in banking stocks.

At 9.17am, the Sensex was trading lower by 0.12%, or 30.47 points, at 24,828.12 points, while the National Stock Exchange’s (NSE’s) broader 50-share Nifty was trading down 0.14%, or 10.15 points, at 7,405.70 points.

The gainers included Tata Motors Ltd that was trading up 1.55% at `426.95 and Bajaj Auto Ltd that rose 1.32% to `1,995.

The BSE Bankex index was the top sectoral loser, down 0.51%.

Shares of Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd (ONGC) were trading down 1.26% at `411.55 apiece.

China’s Shanghai Composite was trading down 0.94%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.5%, while Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average gained 0.19%.

Overnight, US markets lost on Tuesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.13%, the S&P 500 was down 0.04% and Nasdaq Composite lost 0.07%.
