New Delhi: As many as 53 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh go to polls in the fourth phase on Thursday, midway through the ongoing assembly elections.

Polling began at 7am and will go on till 5pm across 12 districts, including the Bundelkhand region of the state.

Some of the key districts going to polls on Thursday include Rae Bareilly, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Pratapgarh, Lalitpur, Jhansi and Jalaun.

The phase is significant given all the three major parties—the Samajwadi Party-Congress combine, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party—have high stakes in the region.

More than 1.84 crore people are eligible to cast their vote on Thursday and seal the fate of 680 candidates. Allahabad North constituency will see a maximum of 26 candidates battling it out.

Polling in Uttar Pradesh is spread over a month and there are three more phases to go over the next fortnight. The state is witnessing a high turnout in these elections.

Results for the ongoing assembly polls will be declared on 11 March.
