Venkaiah Naidu named NDA’s vice-presidential candidate

New Delhi: The parliamentary board of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday picked information and broadcasting minister M. Venkaiah Naidu as its nominee for the vice presidential elections.

Naidu will take on opposition’s Gopal Krishna Gandhi in the 5 August contest to become the next vice president of India.

The BJP parliamentary party board meeting was attended by all members, BJP president Amit Shah said, announcing Venkaiah Naidu’s candidature. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attend the meeting.

The last date for filing nomination papers for the vice presidential election is Tuesday. The term of vice president Hamid Ansari, who is also ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, ends on August 10.
