Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced that the state will start a regulatory commission to oversee private healthcare facilities.

The 10-member commission, which is to be headed by a retired judge, will have representation from the state government, private nursing homes and consumers.

A bill to formally start the commission will be presented in the next session of the assembly, Banerjee said, adding that the aim is to check profiteering and medical negligence.
