AIIMS Seeks A Helping Hand From DRDO Over 'Data Breach' | Unprecedented Cyber Attack | Times Now

The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) will provide AIIMS Delhi with four additional servers in response to a ransomware attack that has crippled the institution's operations since Wednesday. The attack targeted the main and the backup servers of AIIMS, search online strikes corrupt almost all the files on the database. According to sources, "The data of almost 38 lakh patients who got treated at AIIMS annually has been lost completely, and this puts the patient safety at risk." The medical records of the VIPs and data of almost 3-4 crore patients have been reportedly compromised. Personally identifiable information of the staff and patients have also been exploited. There is in fact, a separate stylesheet that is followed by all the hackers. First, it is the hospital network that is infected, and before somebody even identifies the threat, ransomware is also installed on the servers. Now, Interpol has also warned of such an attack in 2020 saying, "Critical systems can be targeted by hackers to extort payment," and the warning came against the backdrop of the increasing ransomware attacks in the country.
