16 killed, 11 injured as bus falls into Chenab river in J K’s Kishtwar

At least 16 people were killed and 11 injured when a minibus skidded off the road and fell into Chenab river in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir today.

The minibus with 27 people onboard was on its way from Keshwan to Kishtwar on the Kuriya-Keshwan link road.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kishtwar) Angrez Singh Rana said 11 bodies were recovered from the spot during the rescue operation. Five people succumbed to injuries at a hospital.

Eleven people who were injured in the accident were airlifted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.

The district administration has announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased, while Rs 50,000 will be given to each of the injured persons, news agency PTI reported.
