The rumour mills have been churning out reports that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will step foot in Kollywood after a decade. It is reported that the actress has been roped in by legendary director Mani Ratnam for his dream project Ponniyin Selvan, based on the literary novel of the same name.

However, Aishwarya has decided to put a full stop to these rumours by confirming the project. The Fanney Khan actress made headlines for her bold looks at the recently-concluded Cannes International Film Festival 2019.

In an interview to Film Companion, Aishwarya said that her film with Mani Ratnam is in the works. She said, "What I will commit to is even though Mani hasn't formally announced it himself, I'm working with him. The word is out so I'm committing to that fact. And I don't have to agree. I'll always be more than thrilled, excited, overwhelmed, humbled, and just happy to work with my guru. So, ya that's happening. Back to school."

Going by an earlier report, Aishwarya might be playing the role of Nandhini from Ponniyin Selvan. She's a power-hungry, deadly and a manipulative woman in the franchise. She is a person who goes to any extent and plots the downfall of the Chola kingdom by manipulating her husband.

Nandini is the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, chancellor and treasurer of the Chola kingdom in the novel. Word has it that Telugu actor Mohan Babu might be roped in as her pair.
