The PM Narendra Modi biopic, featuring Vivek Oberoi in the titular role, is out in theatres. But has Prime Minister Narendra Modi watched the film that traces his journey from a humble chaiwala to the prime minister of the biggest democracy in the world?

On the sidelines of an event in Delhi, Vivek told IndiaToday.in, Iss waqt itne bade-bade kaam hai desh mein. Modi ji bohot zyaada vinamra aur bade dil ke insaan hai Jab bhi unko samay milega, main sure hoon ki unka phone zaroor aayega. (Right now, there are many important things to do in the country. Modi ji is extremely humble and large-hearted. I am sure that whenever he gets the time, he will definitely call.)

Vivek said that he was humbled by the love and support pouring in from all quarters and thanked the audience for their overwhelming response.

Itne saare pyaar bhare messages poore vishwa se aa rahe hai. Dubai mein, Australia mein, London mein Modi! Modi!’ ke naare lag rahe hai theatres mein. Bharat mata ki jai’ keh rahe hai log. Deshbhakti ki bhavna umad rahi ha logon mein. Kahin kahin standing ovation log de rahe hai. (So many appreciative messages are coming in from around the world. In Dubai, Australia and London, people are chanting, Modi! Modi!’ in theatres. People are chanting, Bharat mata ki jai!’ In some places, we have also got a standing ovation), he said.

It has not been easy for Vivek to get into the character of Narendra Modi, but the months of preparation and hours of heavy make-up and prosthetics have paid off.

Bohot log taareef kar rahe hai ki, Aap ki chaal, aap ke haav-bhaav, aap ke bolne ka tareeka aisa tha ki hum andar gaye toh laga ki Vivek ko dekh rahe hai, 20 minute baad bhool gaye Vivek ko aur sirf Modi ji nazar aa rahe the.’ Iss tarah ke jo reactions aa rahe hai, iske liye maine aur poori team ne bohot mehnat ki hai. Iss mehnat ka phal mil raha hai. (A lot of people praised me saying, Your walk, mannerisms and way of speaking made us forget that we were watching Vivek on screen. After 20 minutes, we could only see Modi ji.’ The entire team and I have worked really hard to get these kinds of reactions. We are reaping the fruits of our hard work), he said.

When asked about what lesson he learnt from the life of PM Narendra Modi, Vivek said, Maine ek cheez seekhi. Hum jab doosron ke liye kuch karte hai, kisi aur ka pet bharte hai, woh tab karte hai jab humara pet bhara ho. Modi ji itne gareeb the, ki unko apni maa ko doosron ke gharon mein jhoothe bartan dhote hue dekhna pada. Aisi gareebi se nikalne ke baad bhi, Modi ji kabhi paison ke peeche nahi bhaage. Hai Gujarat ke, Gujarat ke toh khoon mein hi business hota hai aur Gujarati log kabhi bhi apna family business shuru kar sakte hai. Lekin unhone aisa nahi kiya. Kuch na hote hue bhi apna sab kuch desh ko samarpit kiya, yeh bohot badi baat hai.

(I learnt one thing. When we do something for someone, or feed someone, we only do it when we ourselves are well fed. Modi ji was so poor that he had to see his mother wash utensils in other people’s houses. Even though he has seen such poverty, he never ran after money. He is from Gujarat, where business runs in the blood, but he never thought of opening a family business. Even though he had nothing, he sacrificed it all for his country, which I think is a huge thing.)

Directed by Omung Kumar, PM Narendra Modi also features Manoj Joshi, Zarina Wahab and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.
