Recently, Javed Akhtar took to Twitter to express his shock when he found his name under 'lyrics' on the poster. Soon after, lyricist Sameer Anjaan also voiced his surprise when he saw his name on the poster. In an exclusive interview to India Today, producer Sandip Ssingh opens up about the controversy, the change in release date and the film itself.

Javed Akhtar and Sameer have said they've been wrongly credited on the poster of your film?

Javed and Sameer are legendary lyricists, I've grown up watching their work, grown up on their songs.

In our film we've used a song from 1947 Earth 1998 film Ishwar Allah, I loved that song, it goes with my film. I requested T-Series to give the song to us, since it's goes with the theme. It's a beautiful song, it's one of his finest work and I'm blessed to have his song in my film, and Sameer Saab had written a song for Mukul Anand's film which never got released, Dus. There's an anthem Suno Gaur Se and its such a patriotic song. I requested T-Series for the song, and we're using both of them. I hope you like it.

Javed Akhtar has distanced himself from the film?

It's wrongly put by you that they have distanced themselves. They should have called me or Bhushan Kumar to clarify why their name was on the poster and that would've been simple and it really wouldn't have blown out of proportion. This was unnecessary.

Due to the Model Code of Conduct, the film cannot be marketed in newspapers nor on billboard, what's your strategy?

Every film doesn't need to be publicised. There's no Bible on marketing, that a film should be promoted in a certain way. I don't think Uri was promoted well but it reached out to audiences, while Zero had a great promotional strategy but it didn't translate to box office numbers. So people are conscious about marketing and I hope they learn from Stree, URI and I hope we also become an example very soon. Our fingers are crossed that we don't have to concentrate on marketing, we've made a good film, we have to concentrate on the music, script and that's what we have done.

I don't think Rajkummar Rao went all out to promote Stree, for Andhadhun i don't think Srriram Raghavan and Ayushmann Khurrana went all out to promote the film. In this day and age, the audience has realised that a good film is needed and not marketing.

I was waiting for the day that the story is bigger than the star, I think there are lot of great stories that never reached out to the big star which requires them to do those films. I wish Aligarh had a better star, though it had a actor and it could've turned into a great number. I don't think SRK would've ever accepted Sarbjit, Randeep did a fine job but he's not a great star so no one bothered to give an award to him not even in terms of nomination.

Have you acquired the CBFC Certificate?

I have made so many films. I'm not here to break the law and make money and movies. I think Indians are simple people, we all follow the rules cause we love our country, and we love the people. We have followed the rules. And nowhere is it written that you can't compete a film in 38 days. It's planning and writing that took one year, and year went into research and location recce, all those were we'll planned out. I learnt a lot on this film a lot of filmmakers waste their money during the making of the film, I think they should concentrate on the research and planning so that the making shouldn't take time/costly.

DMK has written to the Election Commission and asked for a stay on the movie, set to be released on April 5?

DMK should be more confident about their job and what they have done for Tamil Nadu and the country, than concentrating on a simple film on a human being who is here to inspire the nation and he is one of the biggest brands in the country. DMK should not be bothered about the one film which is releasing before or after the election, they should pay attention to what they have done for the nation and that will help them gain votes this elections. This is a simple story of a chaiwala who became the PM and I want every person in the world and Every indian to get inspired and watch the film.

Is BJP supporting the film?

I'm not supported by the Maharashtra CM, when I launched Mary Kom i called a sports personality to unveil the film, I made Sarbjit and I called his filmm to do the honours. THIS film is such a big brand I cannot call anyone to do the honours because that made me think about whom to call and as a chief guest we requested Maharashtra CM to launch the poster and he did it. We requested Amit Shah to launch the second poster, it took us a while to get in touch with him, unfortunately that didn't work out because the CM of Goa passed away.

They were my guests not supporters, I'm no one to support their party, I'm no one to get their vote increased cause they have done such a great job. Today the voter knows who is right person for the country.

Have you reached out to PM Modi?

Everyone knows about the film, I'm sure he is aware that their is a film on him. If he would like to watch the film, we'll be honored. He's busy right now and I think he'd rather do something for the nation that waste two hours watching a film.

Films on politicians, and political agendas?

URI did not glorify BJP, Accidental PM did not tarnish the image of the Congress. It should showed us the story. It's the media who gives a verdict before the film is out. We don't check our facts and go about educating the audiences. That's wrong.

On advancing the film by a week?

Kalank is coming in 17th April, the film is looking good, that way we would have got only 4days for box office numbers. Hence we decided to go with Arpil 5, instead of 12th.
