Kazuo Ishiguro

2017 Nobel Prize in Literature: For someone “who, in novels of great emotional force, has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world.”

The Japanese-born English writer is a celebrated contemporary fiction writer. He has written eight books so far, most notably “The Remains of the Day” (1989), “Never Let Me Go” (2005) and “The Buried Giant” (2015). Highlighting his style of writing, the Academy noted that it is “marked by a carefully restrained mode of expression, independent of whatever events are taking place.”
