Located in the Cabusilan Mountains near the point where the Philippine provinces of Zambales, Tarlac and Pampanga meet, Pinatubo is known for its deadly eruption of 1991 that was the second largest eruption in the twentieth century. The eruption took place on the island of Luzon, 90 km (55 miles) away from Manila, the capital city.
