Cheteshwar Pujara compiled an epic double century and became the first Indian batsman to face 500 deliveries in a Test innings, spending more than 11 hours at the crease for his marathon 202 on the fourth day of the Ranchi Test.

Pujara is just the sixth batsman in Test history to score multiple double centuries against Australia, joining Wally Hammond (4), Brian Lara (3), Graeme Pollock, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman (2).

Saha scored three Test hundreds, the highest by a No.8 in Tests between Australia and India. Ranchi's own MS Dhoni held the record when he posted 92 in Mohali in October, 2008. The highest by an Australian No.8 against India is 88 by Mitchell Johnson in 2014 in Brisbane.

India have posted a total of 600 or more against Australia six times. Only England have done so more often at 7. And England have played 341 Tests against Australia as against India's 93.

Stephen O'Keefe bowled 77 overs, the most in a single innings by an Australian since Jim Higgs, who bowled 79.4 overs against England at Sydney in January 1979. 

O'Keefe's 77 overs are also the second most by any bowler in an innings in India.

Pujara and Saha had a partnership of 199, the highest seventh-wicket partnership in Test cricket between the two sides. The previous best was 173 by Andrew Symonds and Brad Hogg at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2007-08. Australia bowled 210 number of overs, the most since August, 1975, when they bowled 233.5 overs against England at The Oval. Pujara faced 525 balls, the most by an Indian in a Test innings. Rahul Dravid set the record in 2004 when he faced 495 balls in his 270 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, 2004. 53 years have passed since a batsman faced 500-plus balls versus Australia --- England’s Ken Barrington faced 624 balls to score 256 at Old Trafford in 1964.
