It was a night dominated by two batsmen who were not part of India’s World Cup plans - Ajinkya Rahane started off with a sublime century and carried his bat as Rajasthan Royals posted a formidable 191/6 after 20 overs.

However, it was overshadowed by young Rishabh Pant, as he smacked, bludgeoned and smoked his way to a 36-balls 78 as Delhi Capitals beat Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets to go to the top of the points table.

Pant, who has already played few cameos this season, played perhaps his most responsible innings this season and led his side to the win in the final over. After the win, he was mobbed by his teammates and Delhi Capitals mentor Sourav Ganguly rushed on to the field and lifted young Pant with absolute delight.

Taking to Twitter after the match, Ganguly wrote: Rishabh pant ⁦@RishabPant777⁩ ⁦@ParthJindal11⁩ u deserve this .. u r wow

Reflecting on this innings, the wicket-keeper batsman said that to help his side win an important match was a great feeling.

“I focussed on my process and it worked for me. The wicket was playing good, and I just took advantage of that, I guess. Most important thing for our team is that everyone knows our role, and the support staff tells us, ‘this is your role, and this is what is going to happen to you,” he said in the post-match presser.
