Kuldeep Yadav became the third Indian after Chetan Sharma and Kapil Dev to bag an ODI hat-trick.

Full scorecard

Kuldeep, bowling his eighth over, dismissed Matthew Wade, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins off successive deliveries in the 33rd over of the Australian innings to derail their chase of 253 in the second ODI at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Playing only his ninth ODI, Kuldeep was under pressure, having conceded 39 runs in 7 overs in a low-scoring affair.

However, with constant tactical supervision from MS Dhoni behind the stumps, Kuldeep continued to unleash his variety and put Australia under pressure.

Eventually in his eighth over, Kuldeep ripped apart Australia's lower-order as India took a stranglehold of the match.

Kuldeep stormed into the international scene earlier this year in the Dharamsala Test against Australia when he replaced an injured Virat Kohli. His impressive spells against the visitors left observers impressed.

Later in 2017, Kuldeep made his ODI debut in the West Indies and snared eight wickets by the end of the series. In Sri Lanka, the left-arm chinaman spinner took three wickets from the last two ODIs he played in.

Incidentally, Kuldeep achieved the feat in his IPL home ground. He plays for two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders and is an integral part of their bowling attack.

Here is how the hat-trick panned out:

Over 32.4: K.YADAV to P.CUMMINS OUT! HAT-TRICK FOR KULDEEP YADAV! And the entire Eden Gardens is up on its feet. What a feat for this man, the feeling would be totally different. All his mates barge towards him. Bowls a googly and Cummins lunges forward to defend it. The ball turns away a bit, takes the outside edge and Dhoni behind the stumps doesn't make any mistake. It's the 3rd hat-trick for India in the ODIs. Australia in dire straits now.

Over 32.3: K.YADAV TO A. AGAR OUT! LBW! It's two-in-two for Kuldeep Yadav now. All of a sudden the Aussies are falling here like a pack of cards. Bowls a loopy ball, Agar looks to flick it away but the ball dips in and hit him on the pads right in front of the stumps. A loud appeal to which umpire raises his finger, after taking his time. Ashton confers Stoinis if he should opt for the review, his partner says no and gives him the marching order. Can Yadav pick up a hat-trick?

Over: 32.2: K. YADAV TO M. WADE OUT! Dragged on! Kuldeep Yadav picks up his first and Kohli has something to say to Wade. A banter happened when the skipper was batting and he gives it back. Yadav bowls it short and a bit wide outside off, Wade gets across a long way to push it away but gets an inside edge back onto the stumps. 105 needed from 106 balls.
