Virat Kohli vs MS Dhoni ahead of Dambulla ODI

© India Today Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni were pitted against each other at a recreational football match during Team India's practice session on Friday. India, after beating Sri Lanka for their first-ever Test series sweep overseas, will take on the island nation in a five-match ODI series starting August 20 in Dambulla.

Since relinquishing captaincy, Dhoni has scored 386 runs from 13 ODIs at 64.3 but the phase also includes the second slowest fifty by an Indian. The highlight, of course, was that sizzling 134 against England in January - his first hundred since 2013.

Dhoni arrived in Dambulla with the rest of his teammates, looking fit and dapper. He trained hard at the National Cricket Academy and looks set to put himself through the grind.

Not for the first time, the spotlight would be on Dhoni, albeit for very different reasons.

The ODIs will be played on August 20, 24, 27, 31 and September 3, and the T20I on September 6.

The Men in Blue last played ODIs in Sri Lanka in 2012, when Dhoni's team won the five-match series 4-1.
