AFC Champions League: Al Jazira 0-1 Esteghlal Khuzestan: Frustrating defeat sees Abu Dhabi club plummet in Group B logo 28-02-2017

Al Jazira suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat at home against Esteghlal Khouzestan in a AFC Champions League (ACL) Group B encounter on Monday night.

Aloys Nong’s early strike ensured the debutants registered a second consecutive 1-0 win to maintain their perfect record.

The Iranian visitors opened the scoring in the second minute at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium when Peyman Shirzadi’s throw-in from the left was flicked on by Arash Afshin to Hassan Beit Saeid, who laid the ball into the path of Nong to coolly slot home with the outside of his right boot.

Beit Saeid then struck the crossbar with a wonderful free-kick as the hour approached, before Musallem Fayez headed against the woodwork down the other end but Esteghlal Khouzestan held out to condemn the Emiratis to a second successive defeat.

The hosts dominated possession with 65% of the ball but struggled to find an end product in the final third.
