Al Jazira's 2017 AFC Champions League (ACL) campaign got off to a poor start as they suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Lekhwiya in Group B at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.

Youssef El-Arabi bagged a brace, opening the scoring in the 11th minute before finishing off the third just before injury time. His two goals sandwiched a strike by Youseef Msakni who hit the back of the net in the 80th minute.

The hosts dominated possession over the course of the game, retaining 59 per cent. Meanwhile, the visitors struggled to muster any efforts on goal, registering just one on target.

El-Arabi has been in fine goal-scoring form of late and headed in Msakniā€™s cross from the right from close range just 11 minutes into the game. It was then Msakni's turn to get on the scoresheet as he doubled his team's advantage with 10 minutes left on the clock.

El-Arabi then doubled his tally in the 90th minute when he met second half substitute Ali Afif's cross.

The result sees Lekhwiya sit at the top of Group B while it stretched Al Jazira's winless streak in the competition to eight games.

The Abu Dhabi outfit will host Esteghlal Khuzestan in their next group game on February 27.
