AFC Champions League Preview: Al Rayyan vs Al Wahda - Visitors will draw confidence from play-off win logo 20-02-2017

Al Wahda begin their 2017 AFC Champions League (ACL) campaign with a trip to Al Rayyan in Group D on Tuesday.

The hosts dominated the Qatar Stars League last season as they secured the title by a comfortable 14-point margin. As a result, they are competing in Asia's finest club competition following a three-year absence.

Al Wahda will offer them a difficult test after winning the play-offs. Al Rayyan, like their United Arab Emirates counterparts, are making their seventh appearance in the tournament but will be looking to advance past the group stages for the first time in their history.

On the other hand, Al Wahda have previously reached the semi-finals in 2007, when they beat Al Rayyan in the group stages 3-0 at home and 1-0 away.

Nevertheless, the Qatari outfit will go into this fixture with confidence having won four of their last five domestic games while the visitors have won just once in the Arabian Gulf League since January 14.

Al Wahda will instead draw encouragement from their convincing 3-0 win over Jodan side Al Wehdat in the play-offs two weeks ago.
