Ryan Bertrand has hailed Gareth Southgate’s impact to date as England’s manager.

The Southampton left-back is expected to start Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Scotland, in which three points will push the English to the brink of Russia 2018.

Costa: Conte does not want me

The 27-year-old has established himself amongst the best in the country in his position and he thinks that his boss has put in place the structure for success.

“I think we are in a good place at the moment,” Bertrand told Goal at the launch for competitive gaming company e_champions. “Gareth Southgate has really freshened things up and we’ve got that togetherness in the camp and hopefully we can put a marker down, go to the World Cup and progress.

“I think every manager has their own ways, their own styles, their own philosophies. What he has brought to the table so far the lads I agree with it. We believe in it and we are going to give it our all as well.”

England struggled throughout Euro 2016 before being dumped out of the competition by Iceland at the last-16 stage.

Bertrand only played once in France but he has gone on to make three appearances for his country since. Nevertheless, the full-back denies that England’s players have a point to prove at the World Cup and has downplayed the pressure of previous failures.

Ronaldo the world's highest paid athlete

“There's not necessarily a redemption factor, you go there wanting to make the country proud,” he added. “Every player that pulls on an England shirt wants to represent England to the highest of their abilities. Hopefully, if we can do that, we can have success.

“We have quality and depth, and we have had that for many years. It is about showing that consistently on a bigger stage. Everyone is up for the task and, hopefully, we can do that.”
