Chelsea given assurances over fans' safety logo 05-03-2017

Chelsea have been liaising with West Ham United officials ahead of their Premier League encounter on Monday to ensure that there is no repeat of the crowd violence that marred October’s EFL Cup game at the London Stadium, Goal understands.

The two sets of fans clashed in extra time of that encounter, which West Ham won 2-1, with seven fans arrested after bottles, chairs and coins were thrown.

The Hammers, however, have since improved security at their home ground, which they moved into at the start of the season, and the Blues are satisfied that the safety of both sets of fans will be ensured.

Antonio Conte is subsequently hopeful that the London derby will go off without a hitch, with all of the focus trained on the events on the pitch.

“Yes, last time... Last time wasn't good,” Conte said at a news conference at Cobham Training Centre. It wasn't good. I hope in this game our fans, the West Ham fans, enjoy totally the game and find the right atmosphere.

“To find the right atmosphere but, in England, it's very strange for me to talk about this: usually in every game you find the right atmosphere. The last game against West Ham there was an exception. But I hope, on Monday, to find a good atmosphere in the stadium. I think the players, the club, the country deserves this.”

Chelsea’s away record remains solid, but Conte knows his side are in for another tough test, after his side dropped points to Tottenham and Burnley in the past few weeks.

“This game against West Ham, for us, is very important. It's very important,” He added. In the last away game, the way we played against Burnley, we drew. They played very physical football against us.

"Maybe it can happen, the same, against West Ham on Monday. But for this reason we are preparing for this type of situation. It will be a really tough game.”
