Chelsea target Sessegnon denied sensational hat-trick by team-mate logo 11-03-2017

You are 16, tracked by some of the biggest clubs in England and on the way to a hat-trick, surely nothing could bring you down from cloud nine?

Ryan Sessegnon, however, saw a potentially perfect day blemished by a selfish team-mate, who refused to let him take the penalty that would have sealed a memorable triple for the Fulham wonderkid.

Sessegnon scored two goals in eight minutes for Fulham as the Cottagers completed a remarkable 3-1 victory over Championship leaders Newcastle United at St. James' Park.

The full-back notched his fifth and sixth goals of what has been a fantastic debut campaign, which has attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham in the Premier League.

But if it were not for Tim Ream, the match could have ended even sweeter for him.

With Fulham already 3-1 up and the result all but assured, the Londoners were awarded a penalty deep into injury time when Sessegnon was taken down in the area.

Instead of handing the ball over to Sessegnon, giving him the chance to complete his hat-trick, Ream decided to take the penalty himself - and promptly fluffed his opportunity.

For his part, the American defender tweeted after the game that the decision for him to take the spot-kick was not his own.

Still, the teenager nevertheless leaves Tyneside with two fine strikes, which will only add to his burgeoning reputation.
