Jaguares defeated Atlas 1-0 Saturday, but with relegation rival Morelia also finding a shocking late goal to beat Monterrey, Jaguares will go down to the Ascenso MX, Mexico's second divison. Jaguares ended level with Veracruz on 117 ponts over the previous six tournaments but have a goal difference 10 goals worse than Veracruz.

An early goal on the half volley from Christian "El Hobbit" Bermudez had Jaguares' hopes up, but they were shaken when Morelia found a lead in Monterrey thanks to a 31st minute goal from Gaston Lezcano.

Jaguares' fortune looked to have turned in the 86th minute in Monterrey when Dorlan Pabon converted a penalty to bring the score level - a result that would've sent Morelia down.

But Morelia wouldn't be denied, with Raul Ruidiaz sticking his foot out to knock in a redirected in the 90th minute to give his side all three points. Monarcas' win meant they finished with 118 points over six tournaments, one more than Jaguares were able to accumulate in the same period.
