Emirati club Al Fujairah signed Argentinian legend Diego Maradona to be their head coach beginning next season.

The world footballing icon discussed his new challenge in an interview: “I didn’t sign for the club for the money, I’m here for my love of football, and I’ll give the club everything and we’ll prepare for the new season from now.”

“I refused other offers, and I love the UAE and hope I’d be here, and that’s why I’ll refuse to leave," he elucidated.

Diego Maradona previously coached Dubai-based club Al Wasl during the 2011-12 season but was sacked after 14 months in charge with a record of seven wins from 22 games.

But the 56-year-old hopes to strike success in the Emirates with his new club.

“Al-Fujairah are a great club with huge ambition, I hope to achieve a lot with them in terms of performance and results. This club is my home and I’ll give everything beginning the new season for the fans," he concluded.
