England supporters have been severely criticised after deplorable chants were heard during the television broadcast of Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Germany.

The Three Lions faced their old rivals mere hours after a horrendous terrorist attack in London, which left four people dead, including a police officer.

Nevertheless, some members of the travelling support still chose to sing a vile rendition of “10 German Bombers”, and also booed the German national anthem.

Further chants referencing the First and Second World Wars were heard on national television, leading several Twitter users to denounce the songs.

Manager Gareth Southgate, meanwhile, has urged England fans to support the country in “the right way”, with a World Cup qualifier against Lithuania looming.

"To be honest, I didn't hear what was said but it has been mentioned to me," Southgate said in his post-match press conference.

"Obviously our travelling support in terms of number and the way they back the team is brilliant.

"We would encourage them to do that in the right way at all times."

England’s players will pay tribute to those who lost their lives this weekend, prior to the encounter with Lithuania at Wembley on Sunday.
